lo que quiero es
tierra
si no tierra, pueblo
si no pueblo, amante
si no amante, niño
si no nino
soledad
tranquilidad
muerte
tierra.
what I want is
earth
if not earth, town
if not town, lover
if not people, child
if not child
solitude
peace
death
earth.
(Translated by Eve Lyons & Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor )
I am not sure I agree with Eve Lyon's translation of "amante" (lover) as people; "pueblo" could be people and not city. And "niño"--did it have the tilda in Moraga's original?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions! I agree with the translation change, and the lack of a tilde was simply my difficulty making the HTML work at the time. Fixed now!
