successfully turning off

By Claude Roberto Veale

it's much quieter
breathing is a vista unbroken
as regular and calm as ocean

the hole i've dug nearby
the hole i called heart
slowly fills, full of ocean

i start to refill the hole
with sand. unmanned.
undone. unsung. unbecome.

Claudio Roberto Veale lives with his family in South Texas.
