Favorite Pair of Blue Jeans

By Julia Liberman

out to dry on the back porch
when her favorite pair of jeans
turned into a blue jay and flew away.

She watched in surprise
as soft, faded, blue denim
turned into feathers, bones, a beak, feet,
black beady eyes and an indignant screech.
